Biometric verification is any means by which a person can be uniquely identified by evaluating one or more distinguishing biological traits. Unique identifiers include fingerprints, hand geometry, earlobe geometry, retina and iris patterns, voice waves, DNA, and signatures.

Because no two individual’s biometrics are alike, biometric-based identifications offer a better and more accurate means of ensuring that people are who they claim to be. By matching patterns of individuals against databases of records, our customers are better able to protect and secure citizens from crime and theft made possible by fraudulent identities.

Establishing a person’s claim of identity should be fast and easy. Benson Systems has partnered with various biometric technology manufacturers to provide the latest state-of-the-art technology in in biometrics. Benson Systems can provide a variety of customizable components for building high-accuracy verification applications that can either be standalone or integrated into a self-service kiosk or software applications.

The technologies are ideal for transaction and retail applications, card-issuance solutions and web-based applications. Single fingerprint readers and software developer tools from Benson Systems make creating verification applications fool-proof.

No matter what biometric methodology is used, the identification verification process remains the same. A record of a person's unique characteristic is captured and kept in a database. Later on, when identification verification is required, a new record is captured and compared with the previous record in the database. If the data in the new record matches that in the database record, the person's identity is confirmed.

There are many applications for biometrics: Schools—when parents come to pick up their children, hospitals, universities, data centers, large employers, airports, banks and other financial institutions and even residences.
